Apple's rumored to be working on a new iPhone model called the iPhone 17 Slim to be released in Fall 2025, and here's what you can expect. As the name suggests, the 17 Slim will have a significantly thinner design, with an aluminum chassis rather than titanium. Today, the iPhone 15 Pro is about 8.2 millimeters thick.
The 17 Slim could reduce that thickness to just 5 millimeters, which is almost 40% thinner and would make it the thinnest Apple product ever. But that's not the only thing getting slimmer. The dynamic island is expected to be narrower thanks to a more compact metal lens system for Face ID, giving this iPhone the highest screen to body ratio ever.
The display itself is rumored to be a bit smaller than usual, measuring 6.55 compared to the current 6.7 inch 15 Pro Max that's about 4.5% less viewable area. Although there will likely be a super hard anti-reflective layer on the display glass that's more scratch resistant than the current ceramic shield with significantly less glare. One of the biggest design changes will come to the rear camera system, since it'll be relocated from the top left to the center, which would be a first for any iPhone model ever.
Rumors have also suggested that all three lenses will be 48 megapixels, which would not only deliver more detailed photos, but also be optimized for use with Apple Vision Pro. The front camera will also receive an upgraded 24 megapixel lens, which is twice the resolution of the current 12 megapixel selfie camera. It'll also feature a six element lens that should boost image quality while capturing finer details.
And because of the upcoming Apple Intelligence features, RAM will be more important than ever, which is why the 17 Slim will likely have 8GB of RAM compared to 6GB on current models. And while the A19 chip is also expected, there haven't been any rumors about its performance improvements. Since the 17 Slim will be introduced as Apple's premier iPhone model, it'll likely have a higher price than the Pro Max, which currently starts at $1,199.
